Online assessments have become a regular thing in the educational and corporate industry these days. Especially after the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic that brought upon many societal restrictions, online assessments turned out to be a major source of conducting all types of tests and assessments.

When we talk about online assessments then proctoring is an added part of it. Any test conducted without a proper parameter of invigilation lacks credibility, the same goes for online tests also. They need to be conducted under the proper implementation of a remote proctoring system that can maintain the ideal test environment even when being attempted from a remote location.

What is Online Proctoring System?

An online proctoring system is an advanced AI integrated tool that has been created for ensuring a cheat-proof test environment when the candidate is attempting an online test from a remote location. It increases the scope for the administrator to conduct online exams from any remote location without worrying about any sort of misleading act or attempt during the test.

There are basically three types of online exam proctoring

  1. Live Online Proctoring

In this type of proctoring the entire test-taking candidates are monitored in real-time with the help of audio-video live streaming and screen shares. In this, a proctor is stationed at a remote location and can monitor up to 12 to 20 screens at once in a grid view.

  1. Recorded Proctoring

It differs from live proctoring only in one way and that is everything gets recorded only to be viewed later by a proctor. Audio-visual recordings and screen shares are constantly recorded during the entire test and the proctor makes a fair decision once he views all the recordings in fast forward mode.

  1. Advanced Automated proctoring

Unlike the other two types of proctoring, in advanced automated proctoring the systems AI feature takes care of most of the things. It also consists of audio-visual recordings and screen share but apart from this, it ensures to capture any sort of unusual/misleading activity with the help of analytics.

What are the features of Online Proctoring System?

  1. Candidate Authentication

Online proctoring tool ensures proper candidate authentication. It is the first step for a candidate’s registration in which a candidate’s identification is checked through OTP, Aadhaar, or the IP address. This step is to ensure that the test taker is an original candidate and not an impersonator.

  1. Browsing limitation

In this, the administrator can pre-define the number of attempts for leaving the test screen. If the candidate browses away too many times from the test screen then the test automatically ends.

  1. Advanced control features

If the candidate is being suspected of cheating or some misleading activity then the red flags are raised. In case of constant red flags being raised for a candidate, the proctor can easily pause or end the test. Also, the copy-paste functionality is disabled of the device during the test.

  1. Detailed report

At the end of the test, the remote proctoring tool generates a detailed report for both the test taker as well as the test administrator. The report provides an in-depth analysis of the candidate’s performance during the test. It highlights the number of times the flags were raised and any other sort of unusual activity that took place during the test. It also shows the marks and percentage obtained on the test.
